Virat Kohli discussing Haseeb Hameed's incident with on-field umpires

India skipper Virat Kohli was seen arguing and complaining with the umpires during the fourth Test match against England at The Oval, London. The incident took place when English opening batsman Haseeb Hameed marked his guard out of the crackling crease on Day 1.

As soon as Kohli saw this, he rushed towards the umpires complaining about Hameed’s forbidden move. However, the referees didn’t think Hameed was invading the danger area and hence, he was not warned.

According to the rules, a batter can mark his guard/take his position without entering the ‘danger’ or ‘protected area’. The danger area is considered to be five feet from the bursting fold.

According to MCC rule 41.15.1: “The attacker must not assume a position in the protected area or so close to it that frequent invasion is inevitable.

“The attacker may mark a guard on the field provided that no mark is unreasonably close to the protected area.”
