Welsh Fire will face the Southern Braves in the eighth match of The Hundred Men’s Competition in Cardiff at Sophia Gardens on Tuesday, 27th July.
The Welsh Fire defeated the Northern Superchargers by 5 runs to secure their first win in the Hundred. The Fires’ excellent batting lineup helped them set a big target for their rivals. Speaking of the skipper, Jonny Bairstow superbly scored 56 runs along with Ben Duckett scoring 41 runs off 27 balls gave the contest a pretty good start. James Neesham and Glenn Phillips added a score of 53 runs on the scoreboard. On the bowling side, Qais Ahmed, the right-arm leg spinner, picked up four important wickets by conceding 13 runs in 20 deliveries.
The Southern Braves got off to a poor start in their first match, losing by 9 wickets against Trent Rockets. The Braves’ only high-scorer was Ross Whiteley, a white-ball specialist who stood on the crease and scored 39 runs, followed by Alex Davies who scored 21 off 12 balls. The only bowler to take a wicket was George Garton, the rest of the bowlers were shattered by the opening batsmen.
