Dana White shut down haters who complain about fighters’ pay and unfair treatment of fighters. Fighters’ pay is one of the most talked about topics around UFC since the beginning of the year 2022. Many fighters have come out and have complained about not getting what they deserve from the company.
It all started with UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou calling out Dana White for not giving him the money he wants. Ngannou almost refused to fight for not getting adequate money. Later many fighters jumped on the bandwagon and started criticizing UFC for their fight purses. Fighters such as Kamaru Usman, Paolo Costa, Miesha Tate, Jared Cannonier etc are some of those who were vocal about the whole issue.
While this is an extremely important topic to discuss there has not been anything similar to tackle this problem. UFC president Dana White has also claimed that everything is just fine and there is no need for any changes.
“Boxing has absolutely been destroyed” – Dana White doesn’t want UFC to be like boxing as it will destroy the sport
Dana White recently did a segment with GQ Sports called ‘Actually me’ where he was given the task to answer some of the fans’ questions on the internet.
The video was released on their youtube channel and it received an amazing response. During the segment, White was asked many questions and he answered them with no nonsense. A question that everybody saw coming went like “Why do people talk so much about UFC fighter pay? “
While answering this question, White gave a clear and transparent answer to the fans. White revealed that fighters will never get satisfied with the money they get. White revealed that boxing and its fight purse system has ruined everything and it can’t be the same with MMA. According to White, UFC fighters get what they bring to the company through pay-per-view buys. In the end, White mentioned that if few people don’t like this they can definitely start their own MMA promotion. He said :
“Fighters always wanna make more money. Boxing has absolutely been destroyed because of money and all the things that go on. It’s never gonna happen while I’m here. Believe me, these guys get paid what they’re supposed to get paid. They eat what they kill. They get a percentage of the pay-per-view buys, and
money is spread out amongst all the fighters. If you don’t like it, there’s a simple solution to this problem. Go start your own MMA organization, no barrier to entry.”
The discussion about fighters’ pay is something that will be a heated topic for debate for a long time. These exchanges between fighters, UFC and fans will continue till a good solution is found.
