The fight between Yair Rodriguez vs Zabit Magomedsharipov was supposed to take place on August 29th in the main event of the Fight Night. But Rodriguez pulled as he suffered an ankle injury and will only be back around November.
In a recent interaction with media, Dana White was asked about the no.1 contender fight. He replied that they will wait for Yair Rodrigiez to recover.
“(Tuesday) was matchmaking, and we’re still working on that fight,” White told reporters, after Dana White’s Contender Series 29 in Las Vegas. “We want to do the Yair and Zabit fight, so we’re waiting for Yair to get healed.“
White further clarified that he would like it to be a fight-round fight. “I don’t know how it’s going to end up playing out, but in a perfect world, yes, I would like it to be five rounds.”, the president added.
Now, the question is where will UFC put this fight; PPV or Fight Night? But the later seems more probable since the fight is eventually aimed to decode the opponent for Alexander Volkanovski.
Will the winner get a title shot?

This fight has been in the rounds for over two years now. It was earlier supposed to take place in 2018 but UFC cut Yair Rodriguez for a short time then.
However, for now we can’t be sure that the winner of this fight will get a Featherweight title shot since The Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung and Brian Ortega are expected to fight on 17th October.
However, we can expect that the winner of that fight will eventually become the next opponent of Volkanovski. As of Ortega, there is a mere possibility as he hasn’t fought since last two years. However, The Korean Zombie will definitely get a one if he walks out victorious.
