‘I would love to see her fight Joanna Jedrzejczyk’ – Daniel Cormier on Mackenzie Dern’s next opponent

Mackenzie Dern put the women’s strawweight division on high alert after her first round submission victory over Nina Nunes at UFC on ABC 2, last Saturday. With that she made it four wins on the trot (11-1), with only one loss in her entire career (which was via. unanimous decision against Amanda Ribas). The submission artist also broke the record for the most submission victories in UFC women’s strawweight division history.

Speaking in the recent episode of DC & Helwani MMA Show, Daniel Cormier revealed that Dern was destined for greatness. He exclaimed that he would love to see Dern fight former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk or Tatiana Suarez, since beating them would most probably guarantee Dern a title shot.

Daniel Cormier would also like to see Mackenzie Dern fight Tatiana Suarez!

Daniel Cormier was quoted as saying, “If a former champ wants to fight. I would love to see her fight Joanna Jedrzejczyk, because if she can win that fight, that would make her truly…I mean I don’t know if you can even question whether or not she should get a title shot if she beats Joanna…Or, (she can even fight) Tatiana Suarez.” [H/T FirstSportz]

He continued, “Mackenzie Dern has earned the right to fight the elite of the elite. It is because she is so into with who she is today. As a mother, as a wife, and just as an athlete. When you accomplish so much in a given aspect of MMA, all you think about is championship. Why would Mackenzie Dern think about anything else?” [H/T FirstSportz]

Dern’s victory over Nina Nunes might propel move her up into the top 10 of the women’s strawweight rankings.
