Russia’s Daniil Medvedev has been removed from the Monte Carlo Masters and placed into isolation following a positive COVID-19 test. Medvedev is the most high profile tennis player to have tested positive, that too mid-tournament. This is a personal setback for Medvedev who is currently ranked no.2 in the World and was hoping to close the gap on World no,1 Novak Djokovic.

Daniil Medvedev has withdrawn from the Monte Carlo Masters after testing positive for COVID-19, the ATP Tour announced on Tuesday. This is a big disappointment for Medvedev, but he will now focus on recovering completely and getting back on tour as soon and as safely as he can.

In other developments, Medvedev who had practiced with Rafael Nadal and spoken to Novak Djokovic the day before, so now those athletes and their teams will also have to be tested for Covid. But news is that Nadal and his team have tested negative for Covid.

Daniil Medvedev officially said, “It’s a big disappointment not to play in Monte-Carlo. My focus is now on recovery and I look forward to getting back out on Tour as soon and as safely as possible,” the Russian world number two said in an ATP statement.

He has been placed in quarantine, “and continues to be monitored by the Tournament Physician and ATP Medical Team“, the statement added. He ended by saying. ” hopefully they( Nadal, Djokovic, and team) return negative tests.”
