Serbia vs Kazakhstan: Preview

Team Serbia made it to the quarterfinals only because Russia defeated Spain. Serbia lost their second group stage match to Germany and were dependent on Russia for qualification. If Russia would’ve lost to Spain in their last group stage match, Serbia would’ve been knocked out in the group stage itself. But Russia defeated Spain and hence Serbia made it to the last 8.

They are dependent on their star player- Novak Djokovic, with Dusan Lajovic playing the other singles match. Their doubles pairing is still not fixed, but it is expected that Djokovic will play the doubles match with Nikola Cacic. They defeated Austria in the opening tie before losing to Germany 1-2 in the final group stage match.

Kazakhstan topped their group with a couple of convincing wins. They defeated team Sweden 2-1 in their first tie and then got the better of Canada, who were playing without Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger Aliassime, 3-0. Alexander Bublik is their best bet in singles while Mikhail Kukushkin plays the other singles. Andrey Golubev and Aleksandr Nedovyesov are their sole doubles pairing.

Serbia vs Kazakhstan: Prediction

Given the matchups, Serbia will start has the favorites. Djokovic is almost a guarantee point for Serbia and they’d back either Lajovic or their doubles pair to take them home. Kukushkin’s singles match will be a key for the Kazakh’s as Lajovic isn’t the best player on indoor hardcourts. Expect Djokovic to lead Serbia into the semifinals.

Prediction: Serbia to win 2-1.
