Director Amole Gupte defends first look poster of ‘Saina’ amid backlash

A film based on Saina Nehwal, one of the most popular badminton stars in India and an Olympic medalist is set to release on March 26. It is titled, ‘Saina’ and it stars Parineeti Chopra in the titular role. Now, the first look poster for the film was released recently and very soon, it started to receive backlash due to the fact that it showed the wrong way of servicing in the game. Netizens stating that ‘Saina is doing a Sania Mirza.’

Now, the director Amole Gupte has come out to defend the poster. Taking to his Facebook, Amole Gupte wrote, “Too much speculation in the digital media about the poster… “looks like a tennis serve… Saina doing a Sania” etc etc…If Saina is the flying shuttle, then clearly, the girl’s hand with the National colours wristband is the hand of the Indian Girl Child aspiring to reach Saina’s height!!! High Concept Poster by Rahul Nanda has to be unfortunately explained in detail to a quick reacting, impatient world… not stopping to think before rubbishing anything!!! Socho!!!

The first look poster was shared by Parineeti Chopra on her Twitter handle and soon Saina Nehwal also shared it writing, “I’m so glad to share a glimpse of my upcoming movie, #Saina. Lots of love to the entire team. In cinemas on 26th March.” Although the initial response for it seemed to be positive, very soon backlash started to arise for the way servicing was depicted in the poster.

The teaser for the film was released today and Saina once again took to Twitter to share it writing, “Always makes me proud to see my national flag soar high! Saina teaser out now.
