The Serb is often seen gliding through not just the clay but the hard courts as well. Fognini comments on the perseverance and grit of the Serbian.

”Novak Djokovic is tough,” Fognini said. “When you face him he crushes you. His rhythm is so strong that you can’t think. Djokovic is called Plastic Man by many for his ability to bend like he was made out of rubber. He has victory in his eyes and the world number one determination,” he added.

Novak and Fabio teamed up to play doubles at the Indian Wells in 2019. They reached the semi-finals before crashing out. The duo put up phenomenal performances at their matches and received immense praise. Fabio highlights that their matches are always difficult as the duo shares a strong bond off the court. No wonder he prefers playing with him more than against him.

“The fact that Novak Djokovic is not only a player but also a friend makes everything more difficult. My best matches with him are the ones we were side by side in doubles,” Fognini added.

Novak is currently at the Italian Open as he has reached his 85th ATP 1000 quarter-final. His 36th victory will fetch him a lead on the ATP Masters titles table, while at present he is tied with Rafa at the first spot.
