UFC legend, and current 14th ranked featherweight Edson Barboza has officially resigned a multiple fight deal with the UFC. Although the length of the contract wasn’t specified, with Barboza recently turning 35 in January its likely this will be his last attempt at achieving the UFC gold.

Being known for his exhilarating fight style, and thunderous kicks Edson is currently sitting with a record of 21-9. Although it may not be a pretty record, Edson sits tied with most KO/TKO’s (7 total) in his previous UFC lightweight division.

After dropping down in weight in 2019 to “challenge himself”, Barboza clearly has those same ill intentions in mind for the featherweights.

Can Barboza make a run at the title with new deal?

With only two wins in his last five fights, Barboza finds himself several wins away before he could reach title contention. That’s never stopped him from giving it his absolute all every time he steps into the octagon.

With an astonishing 12 knockouts in his lengthy career, he’s become one of the most electrifying and deadly strikers in the sport.Things have begun to heat up in the UFC featherweight division.

The featherweight title fight between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling approaching, as well as the recent massacre Cory Sandhagen has been on, Edson’s resigning couldn’t have come at a better time.

Although Barboza may be on the back half of his career, he’s still undoubtedly one of the most feared featherweights in the game. With the immense amount of talent the featherweight division has to offer, will Barboza be able to reach title contention?
