Synopsis

England delivered a superb performance in all provinces of the game to commit an enormous 269-run failure on the West Indies in the third Test.

Rain might have delayed the fated but it did not take too long for England to wrap up the West Indies innings.

Player of the series – Stuart Broad, stimulated an all-round performance as he finished the series with 16 wickets and played a blistering knock of 62 in the first innings of the third Test to ladle England out of the hazardous position.

Chris Woakes also shone with the ball in the second innings, reimbursing figures of 5/50.

Chasing 399, West Indies were bowled out for 129 in 37.1 overs in the second innings.

Synopsis

England had the West Indies reeling at 10 for two wickets after fixing them a requiring target of 399 runs to win the third and final test at Old Trafford with Stuart Broad again dominating as he moved one away from 500 test wickets.

Broad, who had taken four wickets in the guests ’ first innings in the morning, persisted by eliminating opener John Campbell without scoring and then nightwatchman Kemar Roach (4) after the West Indies were put in for the last six overs of the day.

England declared on 226 for two in their second innings as Rory Burns scored 90, Joe Root a quickfire 68 and Dom Sibley 56.

Before lunch, Stuart Broad picked up four quick wickets to finish with 6 for 32 haul as England bowled West Indies out for 197 to take a 172-run. 

A wicketless session for England, one in which 76 runs were scored.

Shane Dowrich was his final wicket. Earlier, Holder and Shane Dowrich batted positively on Day 3 of the third and final Test match against England at Old Trafford to help West Indies avoid the follow-on.

The visitors’ started the day needing 33 runs to make England bat again and Holder and Dowrich they got the first milestone without much discomfort.

Holder did get some luck. He was caught off a no ball from Chris Woakes.

Stuart Broad, James Anderson made life unthinkable for West Indies by striking after Tea. West Indies lost half their side for 73 on Day 2 of the third Test in Manchester.

Earlier, Stuart Broad struck in his first over to send back Kraigg Brathwaite early and then Jofra Archer bowled a brute of a bouncer to end an impressive inning from John Campbell.

This happened after West Indies bowled England out for 369. It has been a session of two halves for the West Indies.

The first hour belonged to them completely. Gabriel dismissed both overnight batsmen Ollie Pope (91) and Jos Buttler (67) and in between Kemar Roach picked up his 200th Test scalp by dismissing Chris Woakes and then got rid of Jofra Archer.

But Stuart Broad and Dom Bess stitched together a fine partnership with Broad scoring 62 off 45 balls to take them past 350.

The umpires have concluded the light has gone too bad. Holder and Dowrich walk-off jovially but Archer and Root aren’t diverted as they grasped another wicket.

Synopsis

Bad light has been offered to England batsmen and they have happily taken it.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl, West Indies started off getting rid of last Test’s centurion in the very first over.

Burns though players well for his 57 but the Windies kept on chipping the wickets. They had the upper hand in the first two sessions and had England at 131/4 at Tea.

But the duo of Pope and Buttler steadied the ship and ensured that there was no more damaged on Day 1.

The pair has added an unbeaten 136 runs stand with Pope on 91 and Buttler on 56.

So that’s it from Day 1 of this third and final Test between England and West Indies. The host look calm and strong but West Indies will definitely look to have a fruitful morning on Day 2.

So that’s it then England 258/4 at Stumps on Day 1.

West Indies have also managed to keep the scoring rate under control, it will be an interesting final session where West Indies will look get into the England tail.

West Indies captain Jason Holder won the toss and opted field first. West Indies made one change, bringing in off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall in place of Alzarri Joseph.

For England, Jofra Archer and James Anderson returned after missing the second Test for different reasons. 

Kemar Roach had struck in the first over to remove England Dom Sibley for a duck and England captain Joe Root was run out for 17 due to some excellent fielding from Roston Chase.

England’s recovery was shocked but Rory Burns made sure there no further damages on Day 1 of the series-deciding third Test match at Old Trafford in Manchester.
