Fortnite Season OG concluded with a bang in the form of the Big Bang event. Epic Games also teased three new modes: Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival and LEGO Fortnite. The modes were fully unveiled at the Game Awards 2023 and were introduced into the game the next day. Fortnite Rocket Racing involves Fortnite Characters riding Rocket League vehicles and racing each other to the finish line.

Considering that these are Rocket League cars, they imitate most of the mechanics of supersonic-powered cars. The vehicles can boost, fly, air dodge, and even drive upside down. However, one of the most essential mechanics that you must master in the game mode is being able to drift.

Drifting will allow you to get around corners quickly without wasting time by slowing down for turns. Drifting will also allow you to dodge many obstacles placed on the map to slow you down. The mechanic is relatively simple to perform. However, getting the perfect time to score personal bests on the map will take some practice.

Learn to Drift in Fortnite Rocket Racing

To drift in Fortnite Rocket Racing, you must start by pressing the directional key towards where you wish to turn. Additionally, hit the fire button when you wish to begin your drift. By default, this is RT/R2 on the console and the left button on the mouse for the PC. Hitting the fire button will trigger the drift and make your car travel sideways.

Drifting too hard can sometimes cause your car to steer off-track. You want to counter-steer to prevent this so your car does not lose balance. Counter-steering refers to steering in the opposite direction of the drift. Counter-steer momentarily only when your car is about to lose balance. Otherwise, your car will lose a lot of speed.

Getting a feel for when and when not to drift will require participating in multiple races on the same track. Additionally, knowing when and how to counter-steer will also take a lot of tries. However, once you master drifting in Fortnite Rocket Racing, it will be tough to stop you, and you can beat your opponents easily.
