There is no saturation for broken games that hit the market every year. With a lot of errors and bugs that players see in a game, there are only a handful of studios that release a game fully functional and living up to the player’s expectations.

There isn’t much that players would expect from gaming companies as much as a fully functional game. Even so, a lot of industry giants fail to deliver good gameplay and delayed patch notes to fix the game.

The predecessor of Diablo 3 was released back in 2000. The game made debuted after a long decade and delayed release dates one after another. And finally when the game hit the market the game sold like rare diamonds. The game sold out dropping records in its wake. In 2012 the game was the fastest-selling PC game in the world.

Diablo 3 sold 3.5 million copies in just over 24 hours. But this glory was not long-lived. Of all the copies sold, only a few were working properly. Players complained about the game hanging on loading screen. Other problems reported were connection errors. With developers being flooded with complaints over its functionality the game was taken down multiple times to fix and maintain service by Activision.

With its awesome storyline and shadows used to perfection to assimilate the Batman signature, the game did quite well for a decent amount of time. The players were really happy with the game. But this was only the silver lining of the game. A larger pool of PC gamers was heartbroken when the game ran into various gameplay issues after its release. With the drop in framerate and sync that wasn’t up with the system caused huge frustration among PC players.

Warner Bros decided to take the game down and offer a refund to the PC players. But by the time this move took place, news broke out about anticipation of such a problem might occur on PC. This was nothing less of a scandal and Warner Bros games suffered a huge backlash from the gaming community. In response to that, Warner Bros promised to make the changes and add patches to fix the game.

This game was supposed to redeem the already struggling Dragon Age 2. Instead, the game continued the unfortunate streak of errors and bugs that would succumb to the game and send players back to the home page. This enraged the players and the news did a lot more damage to the game name than it did to players.

Players who opted to play on PS4 reported freezing the screen over some time without any progress. And other had a disappointing experience when they lost their entire progress in the game overnight. But the story on PC was even worse. The PC players couldn’t even get to start the game as it would fail to launch in the first place. In the end, the game came out to be a total disappointment for the players.

7. Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Halo was initially launched as an Xbox series exclusive game. The company, later on launched it on Windows. With a brand that worked all too well on every platform that it was launched on, not everything went well for this edition. When the game made its way to Xbox and Windows it ran into several multiplayer issues.

The matchmaking in the game was terrible. Players had to outright wait hours before getting a match. Since the game came from a powerhouse such as Microsoft itself the game still needed more than a dozen patches to fix the problem that would solve the problems. Though eventually the problem was solved. This was a bad experience for Halo fans since the game is known for seamless gameplay and visual appeal.

Assassin’s Creed is among the most sought-after franchises with developers always ready to drop new ideas, maps, time and era, and the top-of-the-line graphics. The game had the first cut in the gut with accusations of a lack of female characters leading to some social outrage. With reduced framerates and fractured gameplay mechanics, the game was a total mess for some players.

The developers later on decided to drop some DLC for players to play and it made it even worse with microtransactions. Eventually, the game was fixed but at the cost of players’ peace of mind.

5. Cyberpunk 2077

This was among the most awaited and sought-after game before the game was even released. Everyone was excited to take a ride in the game. Featuring Keanu Reeves, the game had players hyped for months.

But all of it came to a halt when the game was released on the market. Bugs, errors , dropped framerates, crashes, hours of the loading screen; you name it, and the game had it. This was a total disaster for the game. After a series of tackling and promises by the CD Project Red, the game lost almost all credibility that it was expected to drop in the first place. The developers even bled a huge settlement of 1.85 million dollars. PlayStation stores even had to stop the sale of the game for some time.

Bethesda Games have always been infamous for their glitches. Even so, things went too far with Fallout 76. The game was claimed to be an RPG and had absolutely no human NPCs to interact with. Since the game was going to be always online it took the developer a lot of time to patch the game and maintenance hours took forever to be complete.

The game was infested with bugs and server issues frustrated the player pool leading to the reduced number of players over a short period. With its release, the game was an “Fallout” for everyone.

3. WWE 2k20

This is among the most successful franchise of Two-Take Interactive. The publishers have been milking the same cow for over a decade with something new to offer every year. And this formula worked for a long time now. But WWE 2K20 was something else.

The game lacked visual appeal and players were not impressed to play a plain white glitched gameplay that was turned off for most. Despite its successful prequel, the game failed miserably in the market losing a majority of its steak of profit to other sports games by EA instead.

2. Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric

Nothing about this game came close to being called fast. Big Red Button was tasked to redeem the game’s long-lost popularity with an animated series. But the game was way too buggy and the repairs were beyond anything developers could hope for. Since it was exclusive to Nintendo’s Wii, the game lost what little player pool it had in its favor. Eventually leading to poor sales earning only $6,20,000.

This game was supposed to rival Call of Duty and focus on the multiplayer aspect of the game. But this was not EA’s cup of tea to challenge a behemoth like Activision’s CoD franchise. The game did well enough to sustain sales but it came nothing close to beating CoD.

Battlefield even lost in sales with Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. The EA CEO Andrew Wilson even expressed disappointment over its poor sales and huge investments.

These were the most broken games that left players wanting more at launch. While most of these games were playable later on with better patch fixes and updates, the starting experience left players highly disappointed.
