Fortnite Season 2 Could Launch Inconveniently Amid Real-Life WAR

This weekend, Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 2 will be released. Probably. Maybe. We’ll have to wait and see. While in-game signals suggest this, there’s nothing traditional about the forthcoming new season, to the point where we can’t be sure it’s even happening.

It’s never been like this for one of the world’s most important sporting events. Sure, COVID caused two Fortnite seasons to be delayed by several weeks in 2020, but those delays were notified to players and the press well in advance. Things get sticky when things like games, movies, and television depict combat against the backdrop of real-life war.

A season centred on an all-out battle between Fortnite’s major factions has been in the works for months, if not years, but it may suddenly arrive just when players, or at the very least watchers, find the entire plotline ridiculous. Is it possible for Epic to postpone the season? That, I’m sure, is the question its creators are asking themselves and each other right now, even as the current season draws to a close.
