As the most honorable tournament of PUBG Mobile, PMGC or PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2021 is drawing to a close, the Tencent officials have shared a brief roadmap of PUBG Mobile Esports 2022. The PUBG Mobile tournaments starting from this year mark the beginning of PUBG Mobile Esports 2.0 and this article shall discuss the changes that have been introduced.

James Yang, Tencent director of PUBG Mobile Esports revealed that he wishes to expand the ecosystem of the battle-royale game’s eSports with the introduction of PUBG Mobile Esports 2.0. The newer version wishes to focus more on the amateur players and strengthen the base of tournaments.

The new roadmap informs us that PMNC (PUBG Mobile National Championship) and regional cups will be the stepping stones for PMPL (PUBG Mobile Pro League). Unlike the previous format, where PMCO Spring and Fall was hosted two times per year, PMNC and Regional Cups will be only hosted for a single time.

New changes

These tournaments will be held for Semi-Pro and amateur players whereas professional players will continue to battle in PMPL Spring and PMPL Fall. Moreover, some prominent third party tournaments will also provide a slot at PMNCs. As a result, players do not need to wait for the arrival of PMCO (PUBG Mobile Club Open).

PUBG Mobile National Championship will be the qualifying tournament for PMPL which will be hosted in 11 countries whereas regional cups will be conducted in 8 regions. Apart from that, PMCO will now take place in following regions:

  • South America
  • Asia
  • Middle East
  • Africa
  • Asia

PUBG Mobile has been selected as an official medal event at 22nd Asian Games which are scheduled to take place in the month of September this year. Professional teams from different countries at the Asian region will get a chance to represent their country and also become potential medal contenders.

The game has also been included as a medal event at the 31st Southeast Asian Games which will take place in Vietnam. Esports will be played from May 13th-May 22nd,2022.

Another big change noticed in PUBG Mobile Esports 2.0 is the introduction of Franchise Leagues. This model will be unveiled in the second half of 2022 in South East Asia. The new Franchise model is set to different from the existing models in China and Japan.

James Yang has also announced that this year, the prize pool for PUBG Mobile Esports is going to much larger than the previous one. PMGC 2021 had alone kept a prize pool of $6 million, therefore, fans can expect that PUBG Mobile Esports 2022 is going to much more impressive.
