Valorant players won’t be able to instalock in future acts

Riot Games, developer and publisher of First Person Shooter VALORANT, is working against “instalocking”. According to a reliable leaker, Cascade Picking is Riot’s answer to players who lock their agent instantly upon agent selectTwitter account @ValorLeaks revealed that it would be similar to Riot Games’ other IP, League of Legends.

Valorant updates:

Cascade Picking seems to function “the first person gets around 15-20 seconds to pick the first agent, then the next person, and then the next.” This effectively prevents players from locking their agent without a care for composition.

While it seems like a great idea on paper, the VALORANT playerbase has mixed opinions about this change to agent select. Some say it would encourage communication and better team compositions. Cascade Picking, ideally, would lead to more synergy around a team’s five agents rather than just having, say, five duelists.

Others see this as a new avenue for toxicity. Players might “take their team hostage” or threaten them with the “I’ll feed if I don’t get to play this agent” angle. Players complaining about their teammates instalocking will see this change as a welcome one regardless.

Since only the concept was leaked, it is unknown if Riot has a mechanism in place to battle negativity in agent select. Nonetheless, it’s still very difficult to put the hammer down VALORANT’s answer against instalocks. Players will just have to wait until the update ships and see for themselves. Cascade Picking is seemingly on the EP 4 update. The dev livestream for EP 4 will hopefully reveal more details. Coincidentally, the quickster Neon also comes with this update.
