EA Sports’ free-to-play first-person shooter Apex Legends will see a price increase in its in-game currency called Apex coins. Even though the game is free, players can make in-game purchases through the use of Apex Coins. After the price increase, they will have to pay more for the same amount.

This new change comes after the new season seventeen update, codenamed “Arsenal.” This new update has added a new character called Ballistic, new cosmetics, and weapon mastery. With the increased price of Apex Coins, players may have to rethink their strategies while upgrading their weapon arsenal.

On May 19, Respawn, in their official blog post, notified the public about the changes in Apex Coins’ price. Titled “Global Price Adjustment Update,” EA and Respawn said that the effects will take place on June 1, 2023.

They clarified that the price change will take place in countries other than these:

  • United States (USD)
  • Europe (EUR)
  • Japan (JPY)
  • Hong Kong (HKD)
  • India (INR)
  • Ukraine (UAH)
  • United Arab Emirates (AED)
  • Vietnam (VND)

However, the interesting thing to note is that Canada and the United Kingdom are not on the list. That means sad news for players from those regions, as they will now have to pay more starting next month.

Respawn revealed that the reason they are increasing the price is due to “changing economic conditions.” They said, “We will occasionally reevaluate global pricing due to changing economic conditions and have decided to adjust prices for Apex Legends.”

They also mentioned that some countries might even see a reduction in prices as well. “Other countries can expect price reductions to align with our goal of balancing prices across all currencies.”

But mentioning only the countries that will not see Apex Coins price increase does not clarify which countries or regions will see its effects. However, the post did make one thing clear: it will only increase in-game purchases of Apex Coins. So, players can breathe a sigh of relief that they won’t have to pay extra to buy any cosmetics in the game.

The blog post also mentioned a new event called “Threat Level,” which will start on May 23 and run until June 6, 2023. The developers also encouraged players to complete whatever purchase they wanted to complete before 2 a.m. PT on June 1. So what are you waiting for? Just log in to Apex Legends and start grinding to buy your favorite in-game cosmetic before the prices increase in your region.
