F1 reporter claims he didn’t ‘mean to make’ Daniel Ricciardo cry at the end of Singapore GP
Lawrence Barretto has clarified that he did not intend to get Daniel Ricciardo emotional during an interview after the Singapore GP.
The 2024 Singapore GP marked Daniel Ricciardo’s final race, signaling his potential exit from Formula 1. VCARB replaced him with reserve driver Liam Lawson for the rest of the season and beyond. However, in his last race, Ricciardo outpaced Lando Norris on the final lap and set the fastest lap, taking a point away from Norris.
Daniel Ricciardo has raced in F1 for 13 years with several teams, including Red Bull, Renault, McLaren, and VCARB. The Australian was a former teammate of Max Verstappen and helped him in this year’s title race by recording the fastest lap in Singapore.
Following the race, Ricciardo appeared emotional during a post-race interview with Lawrence Barretto. The honey badger’s eyes were filled with tears while he answered questions. Barretto also noticed Ricciardo’s sadness, suggesting he realized it might be his last race.
Lawrence Barretto claims Daniel Ricciardo’s impressive practice session performance sparked optimism for a successful weekend
Daniel Ricciardo started the Singapore GP impressively, demonstrating strong performance in practice sessions. He finished seventh in the first practice session and sixth in the second one. Ricciardo’s teammate Yuki Tsunoda finished fifth in FP1 and fourth in FP1.
Ricciardo and Tsunoda’s performances indicated competitiveness and were expected to finish at least in the top ten. However, the race proved difficult for Ricciardo as he finished 14th. Despite this, he secured the fastest lap award for the first time in 2024.
At the age of 35, Ricciardo could continue racing in other leagues. He previously stated he doesn’t want to switch teams again, as leaving Red Bull in 2018 was a decision he regrets in hindsight. It is up to him to decide whether to continue racing or embrace a relaxed life.
