Fernando Alonso has switched to Aston Martin for 2023 on a multi-year deal but despite this fact, Alpine Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer is not worried about the commitment levels of the former two-time World Champion.
Otmar has full faith in Fernando Alonso to keep performing the way he performed during the first leg of the season. The Spaniard has been in supreme form and on occasion has managed to go up against the front-running teams.
After 13 rounds, Alonso is currently sitting on 41 points in the Drivers Championship and the points hall could have been a lot bigger had he not been the victim of bad luck this season.
Many pundits are of the opinion that Fernando is driving at the highest level that he has ever driven in the sport and if we go by this, it can be said that Alpine does not have a lot to worry about as far as 2022 is concerned.
After Alonso’s announcement, there were question marks about whether he would be able to focus for Alpine in the second leg of the season but all of the outside noise has been put to bed by Szafnauer.
Alpine fully trusts Fernando Alonso to deliver during the second leg of 2022
The F1 carnival is getting back underway on the 26th of August and with Alpine only four points ahead of McLaren in the Constructors Championship, it is going to be important for Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso to fire on all cylinders.
Moreover, with Alonso leaving at the end of 2022, Szafnauer has said, “I’m absolutely not worried about the rest of the season. Our objectives are quite clear. We want to finish at least fourth among the manufacturers. Third place is a step too far.”
Otmar Szafnauer has stressed the fact that Alpine’s drivers are quite clear on the objectives of the team and thus do not feel worried in any way about its drivers.
Alpine wants to finish 2022 in the fourth slot, one better than last year, and if they are to achieve their target, Esteban and Fernando would have to keep delivering the way they have done so far, but the question remains, will they be able to do it?
