Christian Horner is a veteran Team Principal, the 49-year-old has led the Red Bull team in Formula one ever since the team’s entry into the sport in 2005. Horner has been credited with the success of the energy drinks giant in the sport, with the 2022 championship victories bringing the Austrian team’s total to 6 drivers’ titles and 5 constructors’ titles. Recently after the departure of Mattia Binotto from Scuderia Ferrari, rumors spread online, suggesting that the Brit was approached by the Italian squad to replace the outgoing Binotto at Maranello.
Christian Horner made his appearance at the much-awaited 2022 Autosport Awards, a prestigious event in the field of motorsports, been held since 1986. On the red carpet, the 49-year-old was asked about Binotto’s departure from Ferrari, and whether the Red Bull boss had anticipated this to happen, Horner mentioned how he was not surprised, replying, “Not really [surprised] its obviously Ferrari’s choice.”
The Brit then went on to take a dig at the Italian’s squad revolving team bosses in the last decade, stating, “It’ll be the sixth Ferrari team principal I’ll have sat opposite since I’ve been at Red Bull,” making a reference to Red Bull’s lack of turnover at the top levels of management which has enabled the team success. Christian acknowledged the hard times for Binotto after a failed title bid with a competitive car in 2022, Horner said, “Obviously difficult for him. They had a great car this year. They were certainly very competitive.”
When asked about the possibility of ever taking the top job at Maranello, Christian firmly dismissed the question, and stated his commitment to his current team, being the team boss right from its inception. Horner replied, “My commitment is very much with the Red Bull team. I’ve been there since the beginning. I have a very close attachment.” Thus, it is clear that the 49-year-old will not be seen donning the Prancing Horse in the times to come.
Christian Horner is ready to face Mercedes in the title fight in 2023
In the latter half of the 2022 F1 season, as we saw Ferrari lag behind in the development race and lose out on the championship, we witnessed the start of Mercedes’s comeback to the top of the pack, with the team winning the Brazilian Grand Prix with a 1-2 finish. Christian was asked which Mercedes driver did he ‘fear’ more, and the 49-year-old replied with a diplomatic answer, appreciating the talent of both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, “I think both those guys have had great seasons. I think George finishing ahead of Lewis in his first year in the team was an impressive performance but Lewis is obviously still right there”
Christian then went on to speak upon his thoughts for next season, with the Brit being aware of the possibility of the Silver Arrows challenging the bulls, while also mentioning the Ferrari’s competitiveness, He said, “You’ve got to assume they will come back fighting hard next year and Ferrari as well will be looking to make progress. It’s set to be a real rough season next year,” giving us a glimpse of a possible three-way fight to win the Formula 1 world championship in 2023.
