Lando Norris and Max Verstappen’s friendship is well known, with Verstappen calling Norris his ‘bestie’ once. As Verstappen reigns unchallenged in Formula One with a 125-point lead over second-place Sergio Perez in the WDC standings, his British best friend, who himself has seen a sudden jump in results with Mclaren, has labeled Verstappen as the best driver on the grid ahead of the Dutch GP.

Norris claimed that no driver can simply assume they could beat Verstappen in a race. Addressing the concerns that his performances have made F1 predictable and boring, Norris said that everyone should be happy just to witness Verstappen in action and what he is achieving.

“I don’t think anyone, ever, will just be able to go ‘Yeah, I can easily beat Max’. It’s impossible… I think Max is one of the best drivers you’ll ever see in Formula 1… Even when he’s winning, be happy that you’re witnessing what he’s able to achieve,” Norris is quoted by Ziggo Sport.

Verstappen is all set to equal Sebastian Vettel’s world record of nine consecutive victories at the Dutch GP on Sunday. Being his home race, Verstappen will see many fans supporting him from the stands as the atmosphere during the race is one of the things the Dutch GP is most well known for.

The FP2 session at Zandvoort was far from ideal for the McLaren rookie Oscar Piastri, who spun out of control through the Hugenholtzbocht banked corner. Daniel Ricciardo followed him closely after, which caused him to run into the barriers and break his left meta-carpal, sidelining him from the Dutch GP. Post-incident, Lando Norris claimed he was not responsible for his teammate’s endeavors.

When asked whether Piastri can shake the incident off and return stronger, Norris claimed that he has done well so far and will be fine. He said it is up to Piastri to do so as he is not driving his car.

“He can do it himself. It’s not up to me, I’m not the one driving his car… He’ll be alright, he’s done a good job so far. It happens, that’s it, he’s cool,” said Norris.
