In the aftermath of the FIA’s decision to drop its investigation into a potential conflict of interest involving Susie Wolff and her husband, Toto Wolff, Susie expressed her initial reaction on Instagram. Her good friend, seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton stepped in for her defense and quoted Former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama to lend his support.
In her statement, Wolff suggested that she might have been “collateral damage” in an unsuccessful attack on someone else or the target of a failed attempt to discredit her personally. She highlighted the impact on her reputation and the lack of direct communication from the FIA during the investigation. The statement also touched on the online abuse she received and her determination not to be intimidated.
Wolff expressed her gratitude for the unified support from Formula One teams. However, she emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, stating;
What happened this week is simply not good enough. As a sport, we must demand, and we deserve, better.
