The Mercedes F1 team ended up P5 and P6 in a tough Italian GP, and while it has become a thing of the past, Lewis Hamilton has claimed that his team would perform better at the Marina Bay F1 circuit. He feels Monza was the worst race of the year for Mercedes, but heading to Singapore, he is optimistic.

The Brackley-based team has had a pretty up-and-down 2023 F1 season, and amidst all the highs and lows, it has managed to keep hold of second position in the Constructors Championship. The Marnia Bay circuit is a high downforce track, and considering this, Lewis Hamilton believes the W14 would perform well during the upcoming event.

While shedding light on Mercedes’s prospects at the street circuit, he said, as reported by Autosport, “I feel like this [Monza] might be the worst one for us. Singapore is all high downforce and, when we put our high downforce wing on, we generally are a little bit better. Not as bad as here. So I hope I’m right.”

Looking at the comments of the former 7-time F1 World Champion, it seems that while he is confident heading to Singapore, he is not fully certain as to how the unpredictable W14 would perform at the track. The Mercedes car has performed well at high downforce circuits but, by the same token, has produced pretty average performances as well.

While Lewis Hamilton is trying to stay in a positive state of mind heading into one of the most physically demanding races on the 2023 calendar, he has, on a personal note, performed brilliantly in Mercedes’s lackluster car. He has managed to extract the maximum performance out of it on most occasions this year.

Moreover, as things stand, he is currently fourth in the Drivers Championship with 164 points to his name and has also amassed a brilliant four podium finishes. When it comes to his teammate, George Russell, he has surprisingly struggled to get to grips with the Brackley-based team’s W14 car.

The Singapore Grand Prix has always been a special event, and considering that Ferrari had the upper hand over Mercedes in Monza, the latter would be raring to put that right at next week’s event. Several eyes will be on Lewis Hamilton and Company in Singapore for many reasons.
