Lewis Hamilton has been verbally attacked by Nelson Piquet yet again. This controversy started with Nelson Piquet calling the seven time world champion the N-word during a shocking podcast. This led to FIA having to intervene and condemn the comments made by the former F1 world champion in order to send a strong message.

The Brit has been subject to such remarks back in his karting days but this has been a rarity ever since he has made the jump to F1. The governing body has been working extremely hard to make the sport more inclusive, therefore, it’s their duty to punish the culprit. When we thought that this was the only mistake made by Nelson Piquet during that podcast, he has disappointingly proved us wrong yet again.

This time he has attacked the driver with homophobic slanderous comments. A video has surfaced which shows Nelson Piquet calling Lewis Hamilton “dando o cu”, which translates into “giving more his ass”. This was said in context to his battle with Nico Rosberg. The Brazilian was suggesting that while the 2016 championship was going on, Lewis Hamilton was busy having gay sex rather than concentrating on the championship.

This has certainly added fuel to the fire and this will reignite the controversy which was slowly dying down somewhat after Piquet’s apology. Even Max Verstappen condemned the acts of his potential future father-in-law. He said, “Everyone is against racism. I think it’s very straight, there’s nothing more you can make of that.”

“I think the wording which was used, even though of course with different kinds of cultures and things probably they said when they were little and younger, was not correct.”

“Let it be a lesson for the future not to use that word because it’s very offensive and especially nowadays it gains even more traction.”

The situation continues to get ugly and this is something that is completely unacceptable. Let’s hope that a proper investigation is done and Nelson Piquet is justly punished for his shocking actions.
