“My objective is to continue,” Fernando Alonso expresses his intention to stay in F1 going into contract negotiations with Alpine
Otmar Szafnauer and Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso has been in F1 for a considerably long period of time, and after his return in the 2021 season with Alpine, many thought that he might be retiring after the 2022 season, however, the reports say otherwise. With four races in five weekends to manage, team principal Otmar Szafnauer and Alonso have decided to postpone their discussions until the current run of races is over. Szafnauer had previously stated that a decision regarding Alonso’s future would begin to take shape from the British Grand Prix weekend onward.

Alonso has expressed a desire to continue competing in Formula 1 after the current season, but should Alpine decide to take a different path, Oscar Piastri, the reigning Formula 2 champion, will be waiting in the wings.
“So far we have not started any negotiations,” Alonso said after qualifying at Silverstone, as PlanetF1 quoted.
“My objective, as I have said sometimes, is to continue, but until the summer break I want to focus: this July we have four races, and I need to score points because I was a bit unlucky in the first nine.”
Szafnauer supported Alonso’s decision to discuss his future at a later time because the new expansion of the Formula 1 calendar has given Alpine more time than in past years to select their driver lineup.
Fernando Alonso looks forward to more years in the sport
Despite starting on the front row in Canada after a strong wet qualifying run, Alonso has looked as quick as ever so far this season. However, due to his aforementioned “unlucky” start to the year, he still lags Esteban Ocon in the standings. Given the Spaniard’s reputation in the industry, it is not surprise that his services are not inexpensive, and Szafnauer noted that the team will consider the wider picture when deciding what to do next.
