Pierre Gasly optimistic about getting ‘back in the midfield fight’ after the summer break

Pierre Gasly has had a pretty up-and-down 2022 season at the AlphaTauri F1 team but the Frenchman is 100 percent certain that his team can make a strong comeback after the end of the summer break.

Pierre Gasly is highly motivated about the second leg of the season and believes that the Red Bull sister team has got everything in its arsenal to have a strong second half of the season.

AlphaTauri had a pretty strong 2021 season in Formula One where they were fighting with Alpine for fifth place in the Constructors Championship. It was just that, by the end of the season they slowly faded away, but were still able to finish P6. Moreover, they had a massive gap of 65 points between them and Aston Martin who finished just below them.

However, their fortunes this season have turned upside down, and after 13 rounds, they are struggling in P8 at the moment, if this wasn’t enough of a concern, Aston Martin is also only 7 points behind them in P9.

Pierre Gasly feels that AlphaTauri will have a better second half as compared to the initial leg of the 2022 F1 season

AlphaTauri’s AT03 hasn’t been able to keep up with the lights of Alpine and McLaren this season and moreover, Haas has also managed to get the better of them in the first 13 rounds of the season, but despite all the problems that the team has had, Gasly is certain that the Faenza based team can turn its campaign around in the second leg of the season.

Gasly was asked if he thinks AlphaTauri can improve in the second half, and the Frenchman while agreeing said, “Yeah, 100 percent.”

“We knew at the start of the season that this year is a race of development; new regulations, new cars, people are just going to develop their car throughout the year.”

“It doesn’t really matter how you start, what’s important is just to have [progress] through the year.”

“I think we started in a decent place. I kind of got slowed down a bit with all the issues we had with porpoising, etc.”

“But now it’s clearly bringing performance, and when you see how tight the midfield is, I think it’s clearly going to put us back in that fight.”

“Now, two tenths in the midfield go from P8 to P16, so we just need to make sure we maximize the full potential of what we’ve got, for the rest of the year.”

The 26-year-old has urged his team to produce the best package that they can for the second leg so that he and Yuki Tsunoda can do the necessary business behind the wheel of the AT03.

The midfield is insanely tight this season and Gasly knows that if his team finds the extra tenths, then they will be in a good place for the remaining races of the season.

Gasly is currently making the most of the summer break and while talking about the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix said, “I must say, I’m looking forward to it, just to have some downtime and also sort of reset, take the time to analyze this first part of the year, which hasn’t been the way we wanted as a team,”

“[We] didn’t get the result that we would have liked, and [so we can] kind of regroup and see how to approach this second part of the year in the best way possible.”

There are only 9 races left in the 2022 F1 season and after looking at what Gasly has said, it seems he is raring to go and just wishes that the AT03 will be able to provide him with the opportunity to go wheel-to-wheel with the heavy hitters in the midfield.

How much of a leap do you think AlphaTauri can make in the remaining races of the 2022 F1 season?
