After a weekend of racing in Canada and then a great race in the UK for the British Grand Prix, the Formula 1 paddocks are all set to arrive at Austria, in the heart of Europe, for the eleventh round of racing in this year’s F1 Championship season. But even though we are now back to following the European times, there are a few tweaks to the original schedule that is usually followed whenever there is a Grand Prix in a European country. And this is because of the Sprint weekend that awaits us in the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

In 2021, there were three Sprint weekends on the F1 calendar as Silverstone, Monza and Interlagos were the three circuits to host the alternative format of racing. But this time, we have already had a Sprint race in Imola, and Austria will be the second venue where we will get to see the alternative format in action once again. As we are already ten races into this F1 season, the Championship battle is gradually becoming more intense by the day, and the fans are stoked to see who gets the most points in the Sprint weekend in Austria.

To make room for a Sprint race on Saturday, the weekend schedule has been altered a bit ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix in the Red Bull Ring. The first free practice session (FP1) will start on Friday at 12:30pm, and this will be the only time that the F1 drivers will get to set up their cars according to the new circuit as the Qualifying will start right after FP 1 on the same day, at 4pm. As it happens with all Sprint weekends, the qualifying will not determine the starting order of the Main Race on Sunday, but the grid order for the Sprint Race on Saturday.

Following the Qualifying on Friday, there will be a short FP 2 Session at 11:30am on Saturday. But due to Parc Fermé, the teams would hardly get to make any adjustments to the car and thus, most teams are expected to forgo this session. Then, the Sprint will start at 3:30pm. The results of the Sprint will specify the starting order for the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday which is all set to start at 2pm.
