At the end of 2020, almost every Formula 1 pundit as well as the fans were certain that the then-Racing Point driver Sergio Perez was looking at an exit from the pinnacle of motorsports since his existing contract with the Lawrence Stroll-owned team was coming to an end, and he did not have any potential contracts lined up for him too. But in a quick turn of events, Sergio Perez was suddenly offered a seat at the Red Bull F1 Racing Team, beside Max Verstappen as the Austrian outfit refused to renew newcomer Alex Albon’s contract any further.

Since 2021, Perez has stuck with Red Bull as he became instrumental in helping Max get his first World Championship after the harrowing fight against Lewis Hamilton at the Abu Dhabi GP that year. Checo remained consistent in helping Red Bull score some crucial points which catapulted them to the top of the grid so that they won the Constructors’ Championship in 2022 and ’23 consecutively. But now, Sergio Perez’s contract is set to come to an end in 2024 and there is reasonable doubt in the F1 town that his employers will renew his deal for the years to come.

But Sergio Perez might have doors open for another racing franchise that has gained massive traction in recent years due to the growing competiton–Formula E. Owing to his massive fan following in Mexico, Sergio Perez is a huge target for Formula E co-founder Alberto Longo who believes Checo should pick the racing franchise in the future.

I constantly talk to Checo and I hope he makes a leap to the real competition. Formula E is your home, it will have its doors open and it is welcome.
Alberto Longo said, as per Fox Sports.

Sergio Perez might meet his former F1 colleagues if he chooses to go into Formula E

Red Bull took up Sergio Perez at a time when the Mexican driver was in a crisis since there were no other vacant spots left for him in Formula 1. But the Austrian team is also infamous for dropping their racers without any preamble. During the 2015 F1 Championship campaign, Red Bull ousted Daniil Kvyat mid-season to take up Max Verstappen. And in 2019, they did the same by replacing Pierre Gasly with Alex Albon. And it would not be surprising to see the team toss Sergio Perez to take up another racer in his place–especially since Checo could only achieve 2 race wins whilst his teammate Max Verstappen did 19 last year.

But Formula 1 is not the only racing franchise that drivers have their eyes set upon these days. With Formula E and IndyCar on the rise, there are several instances where racers have decided to travel down those roads after losing their F1 contracts since the pinnacle of motorsports only admits twenty drivers at a time. Among the long list of ex-F1 drivers who chose to race in Formula E, some of the most prominent ones are Lucas di Grassi, Jean-Éric Vergne, Stoffel Vandoorne, Sébastian Buemi, Pascal Wehrlein and Nyck de Vries.
