As the month of July draws close, so does the famous British Grand Prix, which will take place in the historic Silverstone Circuit from 1st July to 3rd July. Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell’s home Grand Prix is going to have a full house this year because crazed fans have already made sure all tickets to the Silverstone weekend are sold out by the second week of April!

Organized by the Royal Automobile Club, the British Grand Prix was first held in the Brooklands Circuit. Ever since 1948, the Silverstone Circuit has been home to the British Grand Prix and recently, the 70th British Grand Prix was celebrated in 2019. In all its years as a venue for one of the most important races in the Formula 1 calendar, Lewis Hamilton has the highest number of Silverstone trophies, followed by Jim Clark and Alain Prost. To commemorate the great racers who have driven their race cars around the Maggotts and Becketts of the Silverstone circuit, an exhibition called The Classic is organized for the die-hard fans of Motorsport.

This year, as a show of reverence towards Sir Lewis Hamilton’s incredible skills, his seven Championship-winning cars are to be put on display in the exhibition. The mad rush to see all those title-winning cars is pretty evident from the fact that all tickets to the Silverstone Grand Prix have already sold out even though the weekend is still months away and the exhibition is going to be held on the bank holiday weekend of August.

“An unprecedented demand for tickets”: This year’s British GP will be a jam-packed affair

The British Grand Prix has always been hailed as one of the most populous race weekends due to the huge prevalence of motorsport culture among the British people. But this time, owing to the long gap due to Covid-19 and also because of the special exhibit of Lewis’ cars in The Classic, the authorities have noted an upsurge in the ticket sales for the event which will take place in July.

According to a recent report by The Guardian, a whopping 142,000 people have already got themselves tickets to the British Grand Prix. It is a record for the F1 authorities in charge of the British GP because Silverstone has never seen this huge crowd gather in the Northamptonshire villages for the race.

Silverstone CEO Stuart Pringle said, “We experienced an unprecedented demand for tickets for this year’s GP.” He further commented, “We have never reached a sold-out position so early in the year. We have increased capacity slightly by adding more grandstand seats, and we expect our race day crowd to reach 142,000 this year. If sales continue at this rate, we expect it sold out for all three days”.

Will the huge crowd be cheering for their British boys–Lewis Hamilton and George Russell–to bring home a double podium finish in the British GP? With Mercedes’ current form, that seems to be a faraway option but with all the updates in the car that they are supposed to drop next week at the Imola Grand Prix, anything is possible.
