With the fans still reeling from all the action at the Monaco GP Qualifying, which will probably go down in history as one of the best qualis ever, the Spanish GP weekend is already here. And at the quali in Barcelona, luck seemed to have left George Russell, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez as the three could not even make it into the top 10 while their teammates have all gotten top-5 starts at the Main Race slated for tomorrow.

But Mercedes’ both recruits could have been look at some good starting positions at the Circuit dé Barcelona-Catalunya if not for an error in their judgements. A clash between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell sent the former’s W14 onto the grass while Russell could not finish his last chance to get into the Q3 round in Spain. While SkySports’ Anthony Davidson clearly explained the situation as a miscommunication between the two teammates, their advisor, former F1 Champion Nico Rosberg, claimed Lewis was responsible and he should apologise for the incident.

It all happened during the last leg of the Q2 round when George Russell was using some slip stream from Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari to speed up and get into the top 10. What the young Briton did not realise was that his teammate Lewis Hamilton was at his tow for slip stream as well. None of the Mercedes engineers mentioned it to George and Lewis was not aware that his partner knew nothing about the situation.

So, when Lewis, with a better momentum, saw a gap forming in front of him, he thought George was moving away to make way for him. But then George tried to follow the Ferrari in front of him and he clashed with Lewis’ W14. This ended Russell’s run for Q3, and the event was noted by the stewards for further investigation.

Nico Rosberg’s utter dislike for Lewis Hamilton is no news since the former friends-turned-rivals had their fair share of incidents while they were teammates at Mercedes. In fact, during the Spanish GP of 2016, Lewis and Nico collided in the first lap itself, causing both of them to retire from the race. Now, as an advisor for SkySports, Nico saw Lewis in a similar incident at the same track, but with a new teammate now. And he put all the blame for George Russell’s Q2 exit on Hamilton, demanding an apology from him.

Fans have not been able to digest that Nico is asking Lewis to apologize for an event where the Mercedes engineers are clearly responsible for not communicating efficiently. Here is what they have said on Twitter–

Tomorrow, Lewis Hamilton will start from the fifth position on the grid, and might even make a run for the podium places. Should Lewis succeed, it will be his second podium victory in the seven Grands Prix that have been held till now. But what the seven-time World Champion needs as of now if a race win since his last one came in 2021. So, the fans will surely have their eyes pealed for Lewis to take the top position on the grid in Barcelona tomorrow.
