Formula 1 is back after a month-long summer break. Drivers and fans had waited patiently for the Dutch GP, the first race in the second half of the season. Logan Sargeant headed into the Zandvoort weekend hoping to make a mark as the season resumed. However, it seems that the sport’s only American driver on the current grid will have to go home with a disappointing result.
Sargeant had started from P10 on the grid for the first time in his F1 career. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned for the Williams driver in a chaotic start to the Dutch GP. The pecking order changed multiple times as drivers pitted under wet conditions and later on slicks when the track dried up. On lap 16 of the race, Logan Sargeant crashed into the barriers.
The American driver had the opportunity to capitalize on the changeable conditions throughout the race. Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu was perhaps one of the biggest gainers, briefly racing in second place. However, it seems that Sargeant will have no choice but to return home with a DNF for the Grove-based team, with Alex Albon surpassing expectations.

Fans urge Williams to drop Logan Sargeant

Fans on Twitter quickly shared their views on Sargeant’s crash. One user joked that the American driver should go and race in NASCAR, the iconic series of the United States. The user wrote, “Back to NASCAR he goes.” At the same time, another user demanded Williams to pull the plug on the 22-year-old driver. The user commented, “Get rid of him.”
Moreover, one fan believed that Logan Sargeant had decided to follow the legacy of former Williams driver Nicholas Latifi. The fan said, “The new ‘Latifi’ of the season.” On the other hand, another user looked at the American driver for having used the wall to stop his Williams. The user replied, “Wait you can’t park there sir.”
Thus, Logan Sargeant had an early end to the Dutch GP. The American driver lost control of his car and ended up in the wall. Certainly, it was a disappointing result for Williams in what seemed to be a promising weekend for the rookie driver. Nevertheless, Sargeant wants to leave this incident behind and focus on the next season round.
