The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a below-par Indian Premier League (IPL) season last year as they finished outside the playoff spots for the first time ever in their history. The batting did not click and suffered from inconsistency with regard to pacing an innings as well as finishing them. The bowling was also nothing extraordinary as CSK finished 7th just ahead of 8th placed Rajasthan Royals (RR).

This year, with an eye on rectifying things, CSK have made some smart buys at the auction such as those of Moeen Ali, K Gowtham, Cheteshwar Pujara and Robin Uthappa (trade window). It remains to be seen how the new signings as well as the returning vice-captain Suresh Raina come together as a unit in the 2021 edition which kicks off on the 9th of April.

Chennai Super Kings have been roping in players as net and reserve players this year. Their first acquisition was South African pacer Hardus Viljoen. Now, they have roped in Afghanistan’s left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi. The 20-year-old made his debut this year for Afghanistan where he picked up a wicket. The promising youngster has only played two T20s in his career, but CSK have spotted something special in him.
