Jannik Sinner hit out at the comments made by the German in the post match interview, suggesting that if he was unwell, he could not have moved so swiftly on court.

In an interview with Corriere, Sinner said, “I respect him a lot because he’s won more than me, he’s got more experience on the circuit, and he’s a great player,” Sinner said. “However, I do not respect his statements after his defeat to me at Roland Garros. He contradicted himself a lot. He said he had a fever, but in the third and fourth sets, he ran more than me.” He also added that Federer or Nadal would have never given such excuses after losing.

Sinner was unimpressed by Alexander Zverev’s comments after he beat him in the 4th round in Paris. Zverev said that he was bit unwell after his 4 set loss to the Italian. His post match comments were, “I’m completely sick,” “I can’t really breathe, as you can hear by my voice. I had a fever as well. I shouldn’t have played.” However, Sinner believed the German was just making up excuses for his loss.

“It seems to me that he was looking for an excuse after his defeat. Federer or Nadal, for example, would never have said such things,” Sinner added. Later in the interview, Sinner also praised Nadal’s playing style and hoped to face Federer, Thiem and Nadal soon.
