FIFA World Cup Qualifiers 2022: England rout San Marino in a 5-0 win

England defeated bottom ranked San Marino by five goals to nil. Debutant Ollie Watkins got a goal to his name.

England began their road to the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 with a win against San Marino. This is their seventh win over the small nation and in total they’ve scored 42 goals so far against them. However San Marino did find the net against the three lions once way back in 1993.

Ollie Watkins gets a debut goal as Gareth Southgate’s men triumph emphatically

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins was handed a debut by manager Gareth Southgate and he repaid the trust with a goal on his debut. Watkins came on as a substitute in the second half and bagged the final goal for England. Needless to say it’s a moment he will forever cherish.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s double marked the forward’s first competitive goals for his country and Raheem Sterling took his Three Lions tally to 14.

Gareth Southgate rested his main man Harry Kane for this game. England will be facing a tougher challenge when they come up against Poland. Robert Lewandowski and company came from behind to draw 3-3 against Hungary. They will prove to be a tough challenge for England.
