A list of what has been claimed as the final standings of the Ballon d’Or 2021 has gone viral on social media. The list has names of the nominated players, in order of the number of votes they have won with the name of France football on top.

If we go according to the list, Robert Lewandowski is the winner of the award this year, with a total of 627 votes ahead of much-debated pair Lionel Messi and Karim Benzema, both of whom have been pipped to win the award this year.

Lionel Messi has come second and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema was listed in the third position to cap out the top-3, with a total of 526 votes. Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah came in at 4th while surprisingly Jorginho, who won both the UEFA Euro Cup with Italy and the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea this year came in at 5th with only 197 votes.

With no clear favourite to win the Ballon d’Or this year, unlike in the past, the viral post has just added to the excitement among football fans. However, the legitimacy of the piece of paper has been questioned by many fans who came across the post on their social media accounts today.

Many fans claimed that releasing a fake list of the Ballon d’Or final standings has become a recent norm and the final outcome does not correspond with what comes out ahead of it.
