Trent Alexander Arnold stays in spite of many rumours arising of him not making the cut in the final squad, but Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Southampton midfielder James Ward Prowse and West Ham’s Jesse Lingard miss out on the chance to represent England in the Euro.

Ollie Watkins, Mason Greenwood, Jesse Lingard, Aaron Ramsdale, Ben Godfrey, James Ward-Prowse and Ben White all have missed out on the final 26-man list having originally made the provisional squad named by Southgate last week.

Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Mason Mount are the eye catchers to be named in the final squad for the Euros.

Ollie Watkins misses out on a place in England‘s final squad, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Bukayo Saka included in the team for this summer’s tournament. Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of four recognised right-backs selected in England’s final 26-man squad for Euro 2020, alongside Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James.

Inspite of injury concerns over Jordan Henderson, Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips, all made the final squad.

“The most complex part this time has been those injuries, whether we should take the chance on people,” Southgate said when asked about his views on naming the injured players.

“In Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire we’ve got a couple of players who are not where they’d be ideally in terms of their physical preparation, but we think the experience they have and the fact we think we can get them to a point where they can have an involvement in the tournament, it’s worth taking them. Especially as we’ve got an extended squad of 26.

“We’re not taking any tourists here. We’ve got a squad, all of whom are ready to play and contribute.

“That’s really important because over the next nine matches we hope to be involved in, we’re going to need everybody.” stated the England manager.

England manager Gareth Southgate remorses about the fact that Mason Greenwood had to miss out due to his injury; “Mason Greenwood unfortunately had to pull out on Friday so we knew he wasn’t a contender for the last few games,”.

However Southgate surprisingly said that Jesse Lingard will “probably start” against Austria in the friendly in Middlesbrough, despite leaving the midfielder out of his final 26-man squad for Euro 2020.

“They know that they will be involved in these two matches. I think Jesse will probably start tomorrow.

“For me personally, it was very difficult to speak to Jesse, who has given so much to England, has performed so well for England over a long period of time, James Ward-Prowse who has been captain of the U21s and then Ollie Watkins, who had a tremendous season with Aston Villa.

“Those three, I gave them the option of going home if they wanted to but they were all adamant they would want to stay and be a part of the group.” said Southgate.
