EURO 2020 : Germany announce squad for European Championships ; Mueller and Hummels recalled by Low after 2 years

Germany have become the latest European nation to announce their 26-man squad for the EURO 2020 this year. Germany head-coach Joachim Loew has named a very strong squad for the coveted event, recalling veteran players Thomas Mueller and Mats Hummels to the national team after 2 years.

Thomas Mueller had last played for Gemany in March 2019, after which Low making a public declaration that he would not be included in the future. However, the head-coach has rescinded his quote after Germany’s recent struggles in attack.

Another notable inclusion in the Germany squad is that of Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels. The 32-year old defender last played for Germany in November 2018 and was handed out the same verdict as Mueller by the German coach.

Both these players were one of the cornerstones of Germany in their World cup winning squad of 2014 and would add immense amount of experience to a relatively young squad.

A few of the surprise inclusions in the 26-man squad including Freiburg left-back Christian Günter and AS Monaco striker Kevin Volland. A few key notable omissions are that of Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus, both of whom had withdrawn from the competition yesterday.

Germany have been placed in Group F in the EURO 2020 along with othyer heavy weight nations like Portugal, France and Hungary. The Germans would start of their campaign against France on 15th June in Munich.
