Ilaix Moriba to face consequences as he stands stubborn with his decision to not renew his contract with FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona offered Ilaix Moriba a two million per season deal this summer, quite a good offer for an 18-year-old who, just started to play for the first team of FC Barcelona and also packs a lot of potential and room for improvement.

Ilaix’s representatives from the camp rejected the offer given by FC Barcelona and have kept demand to improve the terms of the deal. Joan Laporta has strictly given his last statement that the deal which was provided to Ilaix, is Barcelona’s ultimatum.

Laporta further added that if Ilaix further chooses to not renew his contract then he will be able to leave the club as a free agent next season but he will not be sold at a low price to any club.

Ilaix Moriba will not be playing any matches for FC Barcelona, whether it be for the A team or the B team. Moriba continues his training session with the B team but he was not included in any of the pre-season matches of Barca B.

The clubs which are highly interested to sign Ilaix are Chelsea, Manchester City, and Olympique de Marseille. Due to the poor economic condition which Barcelona is going through, they will be looking to sell Ilaix before his contract expires than letting him go for free. They will be expecting a sum of around €25-€30 million to sell Moriba.

If Barcelona is not able to sell Moriba this season and, also if Moriba does not renew the contract then there is a high chance that Ilaix Moriba, the youngster will spend his entire season in the stands.

What did Joan Laporta and Ronald Koeman say about Ilaix Moriba?

He has a year left and doesn’t want to renew. It’s a situation we don’t accept and we have to act. He’s a great player and, if he doesn’t renew, he knows he will have other solutions. We don’t want home-grown players who don’t want to renew with a year left. He’s been given opportunities, but the club is above everyone. I feel bad that he doesn’t recognise what we’ve done for him. We won’t let him leave for free,” Laporta said, quoted from Soccer.

I spoke to him two or three weeks ago, more as a person than as the Barca coach. He’s in a horrible situation, for me. He’s 18, he’s young, he’s had the chance to play in the first team, and is the future of the club. But he’s now in a situation where he’s not going to play. I know what the club wants to offer the player. My advice would be that money isn’t everything – it’s playing games. The player and his people think differently and that’s disappointing for me. It’s not the most important thing,” Koeman said in a conference, quoted from Soccer.
