The shocking incident occurred in the 84th minute of the match when the Internacional goalkeeper sent the ball long from his kick-off deep inside the opposition half. the ball fell onto the feet of Mauricio, who decided to perform a few kick-ups (6 to be precise) while he moved forward with the ball. With no opposition player insight, the move was justified and also brought the crowd alive by the brilliant piece of skill.

Neymar also had the same fate in 2020 while he attempted a rainbow flick in Ligue 1

However, just as soon as the ball went out of play a minute later, the referee came up straight and showed him a yellow card for the skill, he had just wowed everyone with. Wondering why?

The referee, Ramon Abatti Abel, felt that the midfielder wasn’t respecting the game and later revealed it in his post-match report of the incident. He wrote, “A1.14. Acting in a way that shows disrespect for the game – By acting in a way that shows disrespect for the game,” in his post-match report in reference to the incident.

For avid football fans, this is probably not the first time you’re hearing that a player has been booked for flaunting his ball skills, as Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr also had to endure a similar fate in a Ligue 1 match in 2020 when his attempted rainbow flick did not please the on-field referee.
