Karim Benzema to extend his contract with Real Madrid until 2023

Karim Benzema the French striker, is all set to sign a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid. Benzema was offered a 3-year extension by Florentino Perez but he rejected that offer and decided to sign a one-year contract extension.

Benzema has been a key player in Real Madrid’s forward line, leading them after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. He has made 560 appearances for Real Madrid scoring 281 goals and has also provided 144 assists, since his debut for the Los Blancos in 2009.

Florentino Perez offered a three-year contract extension which Benzema rejected because if he fails to provide a positive impact through his performance until 2023 he will be willing to leave the club. The Real Madrid board wants Benzema to end his career in Real Madrid, setting his release clause at 1 billion Euros.

Benzema is all set as he starts his new season with Real Madrid as the Vice-Captain of the club. He will wear the Captain’s armband in the absence of Marcelo. He is considered to be an excellent and talented playmaker who is skillful, agile, and a prolific forward. With Benzema leading the forward line for the Los Blancos, they aim to achieve heights in European football.

Real Madrid and Benzema agreed verbally to the terms of the agreement in May but the extension of the agreement got delayed due to Benzema’s call back to the National Team in France for the Euros. He has been one of the best players on the pitch for Madrid since his debut and will also be looking forward to providing his best performance for the club this campaign too.
