Manuel Neuer labels Italy as “a good example to follow” after their disappointing EURO 2020 campaign

A new era for Germany starts as they appointed former Bayern boss Hansi Flick as their new coach after the scripted departure of Joachim Low, who had been in the set up for 15 years. Germany would want to win major trophies again after both of their last two tournaments had terrible endings, and they believe following Italy’s steps could help. Manuel Neuer, at the press conference, said, “Italy were a unit. You could see how active they were, how they communicated, with what joy they played. Italy is a good example to follow. We have to do the same thing as them.”

The Hansi Flick era: A new boss at the helm

Hansi Flick will be back in the German dugout after 7 years, where he served as the assistant to Joachim Low during their 2014 World Cup triumph. Flick had a short 2-year term with Bayern Munich where he bagged many trophies including the treble in 2020. Flick now return with Die Manschaft, but this time as the main man. Many believe it would not be an issue regarding settling with the team as he is already familiar with many faces because of his term with Bayern. Captain Neuer believes that Flick would stick to his style of play that turned out to be his success mantra during the Bayern days. Flick has already shuffled the team as he calls players like Marco Reus, Mahmoud Dahoud, and Thilo Kehrer back into the mix.

Decent outings up next for Germany

The new era of German football begins Thursday when the team pays a visit to Lichtenstein, followed by their game against Armenia at home before concluding the International break away at Iceland. Flick would want to get all nine points from the games as prepares the team to bounce back in style.
