Cristiano Ronaldo’s latest statements stating that he wished to leave Manchester United this summer has lit up some interest in London. Especially with Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly. The American is a huge admirer of the forward and has had talks with Cristiano’s agent, Jorge Mendes as well.
Manchester United have been informed of the interest but has made it very clear that they will not sell to a direct Premier League rival. However, should push come to shove, Manchester United could use Ronaldo in a swap deal to get some serious talent from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford.
4 Chelsea players Manchester United can target in a Cristiano Ronaldo swap deal
1. N’Golo Kante
N’Golo Kante would probably be Eric ten Hag’s first choice if he could get a player from the Blues. Kante is clearly one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League and could form a terrific partnership with Frenkie de Jong should the Dutchman also arrive at Manchester.
Moreover, the holding position is one where Manchester United has always struggled. While Kante has struggled with injuries in recent years, he would surely be Ten Hag’s first choice.
Jorgino is another midfielder that Manchester United could get in a swap deal for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Italian is an integral part of Tuchel’s side but could leave the club. However, it’s likely United will only move for Jorgino should contract talks with Frenkie de Jong fail.
3. Armando Borja
On loan to Southampton last season, Armando Borja established himself as a promising young striker. Even though the 20-year-old managed just 6 goals in 32 league appearances, his physique, speed and technique were much appreciated.
Borja could quickly replace Cristiano Ronaldo at United. The Albanian would love to become the first choice at Old Trafford and the move would make complete sense for the Red Devils.
4. Cesar Azpilicueta
Highly unlikely but United could ask for the Chelsea captain in exchange for Cristiano Ronaldo. Azpilicueta is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League and even at 32, he can run the length of the pitch.
Both Ralf Ragnick and Eric ten Hag have been unconvinced of Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. While the club have signed Tyrel Malacia, they could also sign Azpi as well as a short-term answer to their defensive as well offensive problems.
