Chelsea agrees personal terms with Raheem Sterling ahead of £50 million move from Manchester City: Reports

Raheem Sterling's £45m Chelsea move is expected to be completed before the pre-season tour begins.

Raheem Sterling has agreed on personal terms with Chelsea after confirming his desire to leave Manchester City, according to various European outlets. City’s contract with the England international expires next summer, and the Premier League champions have offered him an extension.

However, Fabrizio Romano had confirmed that Sterling had informed the club that he does not wish to extend his contract and wishes to leave this summer. City have always told Sterling, as they have with Gabriel Jesus, who joined Arsenal this week, that if he does not agree with terms this summer, they will sell him, and the Premier League champions are now ready to sanction a move to Chelsea.

Sterling was considering moving abroad on a free transfer next summer, which is a confirmed ambition of his, but he has now decided to take up Chelsea’s offer. Thomas Tuchel has named Sterling his number one attacking target as he attempts to rebuild the club’s attack, which began with the return of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.

Tuchel has also approved moves for Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha, and while those deals have stalled, the move for Sterling is now nearing completion. As we reported earlier this week, City are willing to do business for around £50 million, with Chelsea ready to agree to terms, and it is believed they hope to have Sterling signed and sealed before their pre-season trip to America this weekend.

Thomas Tuchel has been desperate to add a decisive edge in the final third to cure Chelsea’s goalscoring issues and new Blues owner Todd Boehly had been in touch with City to discuss figures and the structure of a deal.

Sterling would offer Tuchel a guaranteed threat he has directly contributed a combined 165 goals in the division in 320 appearances for Liverpool and City as well as tactical flexibility and experience. The 27-year-old believes he is in the decisive phase of his career and wants to make a significant contribution on and off the pitch.
