“Need a 20+ goalscorer”- Chelsea needs a striker like Cristiano Ronaldo even if they sign Raheem Sterling, hints Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Former Chelsea forward wants the club to sign a striker even if they manage to sign Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

Even if they finalize the purchase of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, according to former Chelsea forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, their old club would still have to sign a striker who can tally twenty or more goals every season.

In spite of adding Sterling, the ex-Blues striker thinks they need a proper number 9 to contest for the major titles next season. And who better than Cristiano Ronaldo for scoring goals.

He said, “Sterling is a great player but he is not a number nine. Have to have a goal scorer along with Sterling. They will still need a 20+ goalscorer.”

Chelsea and Manchester City are in-depth negotiations on a Sterling transfer. Thomas Tuchel is keen to add the England winger to his offensive options this summer because the club will only sign players he wants.

To take advantage of the Surrey weather before departing for Los Angeles for the start of a hectic tour of the USA, Tuchel has returned to Cobham along with his players who are flowing back from their summer vacations. We should have a better notion of that starting lineup by the last preseason game versus Arsenal in Orlando.

Along with the possibility of new additions—Raheem Sterling and Matthijs de Ligt are top targets this summer—there is also the chance of additional squad departures, loans, and perhaps an unanticipated breakthrough like the one Trevoh Chalobah had a year ago.

Todd Boehly, the new owner of the Blues, is reportedly excited about the concept and has been in contact with Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo’s agent, to discuss how to make it happen.

The striker is reportedly not something United wants to trade this summer, but if they were to authorize it, they would demand the £13 million they paid Juventus for him. The summer transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Chelsea has generated a lot of controversy, but some believe it would be a good decision for Thomas Tuchel’s team.

Thiago Silva thinks that PSG forward Neymar “needs to” join him at Chelsea (The Sun, June 29), and Chelsea are considered the favorites to capture the Brazilian superstar Neymar. Neymar has also been linked to a transfer to Chelsea.
