Ousmane Dembele is edging closer to leaving Barcelona on a free transfer after joining them in 2017 for an enormous fee of €145 million. Safe to say, injuries and a lack of commitment have prevented the player from fully justifying his price tag to the Catalan club.
The Frenchman now seems content with leaving after rejecting Barcelona’s new deal of reduced salary. While he found some resurgence in the form under Xavi, it has not been enough and former Barcelona presidential candidate, Victor Font, has his say on the matter.
Ousmane Dembele has offers from PSG and Chelsea: Reports
Speaking about the 25-year-old, Victor Font said, “Dembélé? The Club is above, a player with this lack of commitment and the way the Club treats us cannot continue.”
“We all have to go at one o’clock. As a radical Cruyffista, I am convinced that ‘isms’ enrich us. But the trench weakens us.” Font also spoke about Lionel Messi, “The Club should work to rebuild ties with Messi, he is an asset of Barcelona. We will support the president and the board if he does.”
In a one hour talk, Victor Font also criticised Joan Laporta saying that the current Barcelona president is not up for it to get Barcelona out of its financial misery. Having lost Dembel for free and being forced to sell many more players at cheaper valuations.
As of now, Ousmane Dembele has offers reportedly from both PSG and Chelsea. The English club have offered the player a bumper contract to sign for them. Although, Raheem Sterling remains their top target after they close the deal with Leeds for Rafinha.
Ousmane Dembele never fully reached his potential at Barcelona. After 5 years at the club, the player only managed 150 appearances missing most games due to injuries. In those games, Ousmane Dembele scored 32 times while assisted a further 34 times. A rather dismal output from a player who cost €145 million to the Blaugrana.
