Neymar settles legal dispute with former club FC Barcelona outside the court after 4 long drawn years

The legal dispute between Neymar and his former club FC Barcelona has finally come to an end after a long drawn episode of 4 years, as both parties reached an amicable agreement to end their long-running dispute over the Brazilian’s contract.

After leaving the club in 2017 to join French giants Paris Saint Germain, Neymar had issued a statement that he owed an unpaid signing bonus from Barcelona, but the club refused to pay him so, as matters went into deep waters. However, now the case has been settled out of court in an amicable fashion with both parties coming to an understanding.

Brazilian winger Neymar had left Barcelona in the summer of 2017 on an all time record-breaking fee of €222 million to join French powerhouse PSG, but Neymar then claimed that he was owed €43.6million in unpaid bonuses by his former club.

The Brazilian international claimed insisted that he was due the huge sum as a loyalty bonus offered by Barcelona, after he signed a new five-year contract with the Catalan giants in 2016.

However, tides turned when a Catalan court ruled in Barcelona’s favour in June 2020 and Neymar was ordered to pay his former club €6.7m after losing his case. But now, FC Barcelona has brought an end to the legal case after settling the dispute with the former player extrajudicially, as stated in the club official statement.

“FC Barcelona announce that it has ended out of court in amicable fashion the various labour and civil litigation cases that were open with the Brazilian player Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior.” FC Barcelona stated in its club official statement.

“As such, a transactional agreement between the Club and the player has been signed to end the legal cases that were pending between the two parties: three claims related to labour and a civil case.”

“Neymar was a Barça player between the seasons 2013/14 until 2016/17. Subsequently, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain, the club where he currently plays.” the statement further said.

Neymar left Barcelona for PSG in 2017 for a record fee of €222m

Neymar enjoyed great spell with Barcelona after moving in from Santos, where he was a part of the famous MSN trio with Messi and Suarez and also won the Champions League title in the 2015/16 Barcelona treble winning season, which is also his only UCL title win.

Neymar has been linked with a return to Barcelona in the past few years, but the deal collapsed due to financial calls and both parties not being able to come to an agreement over the contract, with Neymar also extending his contract with Paris this year.
