Eric Garcia is a La Masia academy product and came up the ranks in Barcelona before leaving the club in 2017. He joined Manchester City but failed to earn himself a starting spot under Pep Guardiola’s management.

Eric Garcia’s contract with Barcelona has a mammoth 400m Euros buy-out clause

The La Liga club have included a massive buyout clause of 400m euros (£343m) in the 20-year-old’s contract which will run out till 2026. Garcia was unveiled at Barcelona on Tuesday and will officially join the club on a free transfer when his contract at Etihad Stadium expires at the end of the month.

The 20-year-old was limited to just six appearances in the league this season as City completed a domestic double of Premier League and the League Cup. He was an unused substitute in the 0-1 defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League final.

Eric Garcia is reported to have agreed to a 40 per cent wage cut and earn less than what his current contract with Manchester City had. The centre-back was also offered a contract extension by Man City but he refused it alongside offers from many other clubs with the Spaniard always being vocal about his dream to play for FC Barcelona at senior level.

Eric Garcia will be in action for Spain in the European Championships this summer as Luis Enrique has called upon the defender despite his lack of minutes at the club level.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are close to finalising a deal for Georginio Wijnaldum after his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season. They would not stop there and are also hoping to pull off a free transfer for Memphis Depay, whose contract with Lyon expires at the end of June.
