Pep Guardiola is ‘happy’ for Ferran Torres as the Spanish international closes in on a move to Barcelona

It seems that Xavi and Barcelona have finally got their man as reports suggests that Manchester City’s Ferran Torres is ‘close’ to a move to the Catalan club for a reported fee of £55 million. Torres who very much cemented his position as a false 9 and somewhat of a striker in Pep’s team at the start of the season and was in scintillating form before he suffered a long term injury with Spanish national team in October.

Many said that it will take a top striker and a centre forward to fill in Sergio Aguero’s void as he joined FC Barcelona after the end of last season on a free transfer. Unfortunately the Argentine striker has announced retirement last week due to the heart issues. However Pep Guardiola is happy for the Spanish international and has no regrets that Torres is leaving.

“I said many times, when he came to me, if you are not happy you have to leave. We are not a club like other teams when you want to leave and the CEO and president say no. Another issue is the agreement with the clubs, and the players, it’s not my business.”

Manchester City has one of the best squad depths not only in the Premier League but also across Europe. Many thought that the blue side of Manchester will suffer in terms of scoring goals without likes of Sergio Aguero who has led the line for over 10 years. However Gabriel Jesus remains the only centre forward in the squad as Guardiola says that the club will not be signing a striker in January potentially to replace Ferran Torres.

“We won’t bring in a striker in January,” said Guardiola. “It’s not done officially, I know they are negotiating, it’s close, that’s all. When the club announces it’s done.”

Will be a good move for Ferran Torres to leave Premier League champions City to go to a struggling Barcelona side at the moment ?
