Rangnick is currently serving as the head of sports and development at Russian club, Lokomotiv Moscow and the appointment will only be finalised after the club agrees to let go of him. He is regarded as the ‘godfather’ of modern coaching in Germany and has had plenty of success in his esteemed career as a manager so far.
He won the German Cup with Schalke in 2011, and also took them to the Champions League semi-finals that year, where they were eventually beaten by Manchester United.
However, United fans will have to wait at least a week to see the German manager take charge of their club as he waits for his work permit in England and won’t be seen in the dugout for United’s next fixture against Chelsea this weekend.
Ralf Rangnick will take over the job from Michael Carrick, who was appointed as the interim manager. The former Manchester United player started the job well, leading his side to a 2-0 victory in their UEFA Champions League encounter against Villarreal to secure qualification into the knockout rounds.
