Steven Gerrard in contention to replace Steve Bruce at Newcastle United after the £305m takeover

Liverpool legend and current Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard is linked with a move to Newcastle United after the English Premier League confirmed the sale to the Saudi Arabia backed consortium. Steven Gerrard is ‘intrigued’ with the idea of him replacing Steve Bruce with other big names also linked to take up the managerial job at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United now boast the richest owners in the footballing world with a net worth of £320 billion, which is almost £300 billion more than the Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour. Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund(PIF) backed by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, now owns 80 percent of the club.

With the remaining 20 percent equally belonging to British businesswoman Amanda Staveley the Reuben brothers David and Simon. PIF Governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, is the club’s new chairman, succeeding Ashley, who replaced Sir John Hall in 2007. Staveley said that the club now has the same ambitions as the likes of Manchester City and PSG after the takeover was completed on Thursday.

Newcastle fans are desperate for a managerial change as soon as possible one which the current boss, Steve Bruce is aware of the situation that he could be sacked. Steven Gerrard is linked as a potential replacement at the St James Park after his heroics with Rangers FC in getting them back to top of the Scottish Premiership last season and also in the Europa League. Gerrard is said to be ‘intrigued’ with the whole Newcastle managerial situation at the moment and could be in his final season at the Ibrox.

Current Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is also one of the names in line to replace Steve Bruce after he is sacked and in order to do that Newcastle United will have to pay Steve a sum of £8 million. Whichever manager takes over after Steve Bruce is sacked will be highly backed by the owners and the higher authorities at the club in terms of transfer budgets and reports already suggest that the new owners have reportedly given a green light to spend £200 million in the next transfer window.
